About

My practice is mainly inspired by the Irish landscape, drawing inspiration from my love of hiking and observing the natural world. My approach to landscape painting aims to capture the essence of nature, “Don’t make your picture like a picture, make it like nature..” Robert Henri

In my work I am mainly concerned with interesting lines, mark making and gestural brushstrokes in order to convey the energy of passing storms or dramatic mountain landscapes. I don’t wish to convey a traditional landscape scene, I want the viewer to ‘feel’ the landscape and its’ ‘sacredness’. Through gestural mark making in my sketchbooks while at a location I try to capture this ‘feeling’ of the land and hopefully transfer this onto the canvas later.

I have previously exhibited in The Gordon Gallery Derry, Ulster University, Charles Gilmore Fine Art and received the Sheila McClean award for painting from North West Regional College (2014)
